Purple Potatoe Eater:

As if I needed another reason to be in complete awe of Him, I discovered that He makes purple potatoes. It's like a dream. Too good to be real. How INCREDIBLY AWESOME is our God?

Can I even begin to express the joy of preparing/cooking/eating PURPLE potatoes? My dashingly, adorable sister, Kara, and I ventured out to cook Purple Potatoes for our very first time today. A smashing success!

I never thought I would like a picture of myself not smiling. It just seems wrong. Not to mention I look like a man when I don't smile. It's bad, internet. It's real bad. However, my sister, Laura, took a few snapshots of me yesterday just to document life but mostly to have a new photo for my website because heaven knows I need a new one.

I got a text today from my Kara...

"I'm in today's paper. :D"

She and her Sullivan East HS volleyball teammates whipped Unicoi HS into some serious shape last night. It was their first game of the season. I couldn't be more proud.

After the game she hugged me and said, "Thanks SOOOO much for being here." Little does she know I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Suuuuuuuuuuper proud of this girl. Made the varsity volleyball team at her school for her upcoming Sophomore year. She's basically the best volleyball player, EVER. If you ask me. ;)

Ever since Friday, February 13, 2004 (the day we met) we've never really called each other by our real names.
Don't ask me why.
I have no idea.
We just don't.
He calls me Rose (my middle name).
I call him Love.
Sounds dorky but it's the truth. So whenever I write him a note, I scribble out, "Dear Love." It makes me smile every time.

This might be my favorite couple pictures of us. Ever.

We shop for our Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes all year long. And like the past 6 years around this time, Joel & I headed to the Wal-Mart this morning to take full advantage of their Back-to-School sales on crayons, markers, colored pencils, ect. We ran around the aisles and filled our cart up like we have 31 kids starting school in the Fall. And of course, you KNOW we HAVE to get Crayola. I am admittedly a "Brand Snob"(it's kinda bad) but come on people! RoseArt just doesn't give near the same color quality as Crayola. :)

We sure do LOVE all that they do over at Operation Christmas Child for kids around the world. May sound silly but I was completely overcome with emotion this afternoon when I thought about how God has blessed my life by giving me the opportunity to share my love for Christ and my passion for art with kids across the globe through packing these shoe boxes. My prayer is not only that the kids will hear and accept the Gospel but also that they will be able to have the opportunity to create. Imagination and creativity are indeed very important aspects of development. Good thing our God is BIG. Big enough to be able to send these particular boxes to kids who will love Crayola crayons, glue and glitter. Isn't that great? I pray over these boxes knowing that God already has specific kids in mind. He cares about us so much more than we could ever know, doesn't He?

Don't worry, we put other items in the shoe boxes as well. It's not all Crayola. A few toothbrushes, a Slinky and a super ball or two are almost just as important. :)

Tomorrow ('er today since it's 2am) Katie Snyder is picking me up and we're heading up I-81 for a little road trip adventure where we will shoot a wedding in Baltimore.

Maryland is not ready for the awesomeness that is headed its way.

Here she is... the cutest 11 year old the world has ever seen. Quite sure of it, actually.

Her name is Christa Jewell and she's my baby sista. Thanks to her three older sisters (myself included), she has great style and a love for all good things found at thrift stores. Oh boy. This girl shops through the racks and shelves of other people's treasures with the best of us. When I say all of us can spend 3 hours (easy) in one thrift store I'm not exaggerating.

She's just fun. I love her. There's nothing else to say. xo.

Looks like I did an absolutely HORRIBLE job of keeping up with blog posts. ha! Wow. That was a big, fat fail on my part.

So... since every day is new, I'm starting fresh. I've decided to make this blog a personal/professional/mostly personal journal of the happenings in our (mine+joel+shrooms+charlie) lives. I just don't want to forget.

Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music & Dance

April 22-25, 2010 Pittsboro, NC

Who can resist camping and dancing for 4 days straight? I can't even explain how much I love it.

Deborah Doan, Sarah Addleman, and I had some serious fun this past weekend. My THREE FAVORITE BANDS OF ALL TIME were there. Who you ask? Well, you should check out my friends Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Scythian, and those boys from San Diego, The Smart Brothers. BONUS! Bela Fleck was there too. And I have a new love for zydeco music. That stuff is the jam!

We met some awesome neighbors who camped next to us and we formed Camp Howdy. I'm sure you'll be hearing more about the adventures of Camp Howdy as we reunite at Floyd Fest this July!

P.S. I didn't bring my camera. *gasp* I know. I know. But I did bring the Flip. :)

So, here's the deal. Casey is basically just a complete doll. I adore her sweet smile. We had an fabulous time shooting her senior session at one of my all time favorite places on the planet, Roan Mountain.

PS. Casey & my little brother (who's really not little because he's 6'6") just officially announced that they're a couple! YAY! It's so great I can barely stand it!

Wow. I'm already doing horrible at this "post everyday" thing. On a brighter note, I went to see Scythian at The Bristol Train Station last night and they were INCREDIBLY AMAZING!!! Please do yourself a favor and check out their music. Playing the violin since I was 3 makes me really appreciate these guys and their talent. One of the violinists even studied under Dr. Suzuki and that equals about 104,678,098,783,151 cool points in my book!

All I can say is I wish we had as many awesome places to shoot here as you people do in Dayton! Wow! We took a few at Cox Arboretum and then some more at the Dayton Art Institute. Such a fun day! Loved getting to travel and shoot in new places!
